Initially developed as a subcompact car, the fuel efficient and affordable Honda Civic underwent several redesigns. Today, this vehicle has reverted to the old system of using one standard of bulbs for forward-lighting.

In particular, the 2016-2018 models of the car are once again using H11 for low beam, 9005 for high beam, and H8 for fog lights. If you want to illuminate your rides, you can actually choose an H11 HID kit and avoid lots of problems while on the road.

The Honda Civic, which began its journey as a subcompact car, has undergone numerous redesigns over the years, evolving into a model known for its fuel efficiency and affordability. In a nod to simplicity and standardization, the recent versions of the Honda Civic have returned to using a uniform standard for forward-lighting bulbs.

Specifically, the 2016-2018 models of the Honda Civic have standardized on H11 bulbs for the low beam, 9005 bulbs for the high beam, and H8 bulbs for the fog lights. For drivers looking to enhance their night-time driving experience, opting for an H11 HID (High-Intensity Discharge) kit is a wise choice.

This upgrade not only improves visibility on the road but also helps in avoiding potential issues associated with inadequate lighting. The use of H11 HID kits in these models of the Civic ensures a balance between optimal illumination and maintaining the vehicle’s original design specifications.

    Halogen vs LED vs HID

    Honda Civic Halogen Led Hid

Honda Civic headlights come in three basic types: Halogen, LED and HID.

    Halogen Headlights

Halogen headlights are the most popular type of headlight bulbs on the market today. They feature a sealed glass bulb containing two electrodes which allows current to flow through them when triggered by a high-intensity discharge or spark from a tungsten filament that is heated to incandescence by the passage of electric current through it.

These kinds of lights have been around for many decades, but they’re still going strong today as there’s still nothing quite like them for overall performance and reliability.

    LED Headlights

LED lights were first trialed for automotive use back in 2004 and then they’ve become increasingly popular as an option for Honda Civic headlights since then. LED headlights are quite simply a collection of small diodes, each one capable of emitting strong beams of light that produce a lot more illumination than similar halogen bulbs do.

The technology is incredibly reliable but it’s also been known to fail from time-to-time, especially if moisture enters the casing.

    HID Headlights

HIDs use a tungsten filament as well as xenon gas to create light which has a bluish tint to it. They have been used in headlight applications before and they’re still being widely used today because they’re very efficient at producing huge amounts of usable light for your car at night despite their higher purchase price compared with say halogen lights.

2012 Honda Civic – oEdRo X3 Series 9006 LED Headlight Bulbs

Hey what’s up everyone on youtube today i’m going to be installing some lead row x3 LED headlights and my 2012 honda civic so some of the qualities that these headlights have they do have the LEDs on the headlight as you can see in the picture but they are waterproof and they are adjustable in 360 degrees so you can actually adjust the light and I’ll go into that in just a second but just to show how the stock headlights look when I turn on the headlights you can tell obviously I kind of need to retouch the clear plastic lens on the outside of the housing but as you can see it’s that stock yellowish color so what’s included in the box as we open it oh yeah and the size of this is a nine thousand six nine zero zero six and this is the low beam light bulb…

    Honda Civic 7th Gen – 200-2005

How to Replace a Headlight Bulb in a 2001-2005 Honda Civic

Alright guys just a quick tutorial here about how to take out and replace a lightbulb in a Honda Civic I think it’s for 2001 to 2004 models and maybe 2005 models this particular model of 2004 and I’m going to go ahead and take it out it’s kind of a pain it’s on we’re doing the driver’s side right now what you can do is just pull up your power steering reservoir put it to the side it’s not going to hurt anything you’ve got a little wiggle room there right in there that’s the bulb that we want to get out of there this is your low beam your high beam is right over here we’re going to work on the low beam…

    Honda Civic 6th Gen – 1996-2000

Replacing drivers side headlight bulb on 1996-2000 Honda Civic the easiest way

On the driver side of the 96 on the Civic either separate bulb for the low the high beam on the place to low beam and the bulb is right here as you can see it’s hard to get to the main thing is this power steering reservoirs in the way so you can kind of disconnect that what it filled it and give you a lot of room so what I’m trying to do is this bracket and hopefully I have enough range get to that pull down there right back there so fortunately even though it’s hard to get to it looks like I can use this um so six six inch long extension 10 millimeter deep socket.

    Honda Civic 5th Gen – 1991-1995

How to replace the headlight bulbs in a 1993 Honda Civic

At the first step after you’ve popped open the hood you’re going to want to remove these two bolts right here in here these are metric bolts you’re going to need a ten millimeter socket and a ratchet to get those loose or you could just use a pair of pliers if you really wanted to pretty easy to remove nice and short alright see this hole right here there’s an identical bolt and you’re going to need a three inch extension minimum to get down there you know one undo that one too, of course, it’s not actually a bolt it’s really just a nut so you’re going to want to be kind of careful when you’re taking it out of there that you know drop it and lose its owner inside the vehicle takes a little bit of maneuvering to get it out of there next part for this you’re going to need a Phillips screwdriver…]

    Aftermarket Headlights

You have plenty of aftermarket headlight types. But Xenon, LED, and Halogen lamps are the most common options today. Use Halogen bulbs if you want a solution that is simple, highly affordable, and create decent illumination.

This upgrade option uses tungsten filament and Halogen gas, making it that efficient. But you have another great option.

LED headlights have lower consumption than Halogens. You can consider them. Not only that. They also have cooler operating temperatures and also longer service life.

Xenon/HID headlights are filled with a glowing gas, making them much brighter. They also work at lower temperatures and have a significantly longer service life.

You are for sure spoilt for choices. But is it easy to choose the best brand-new headlights? Yes. It is if you carefully consider brightness, cost, power consumption, and designs.

Go for headlights that guarantee you the most exceptional visibility and value. If your model doesn’t feature the necessary advanced features, make an upgrade with an appropriate HID headlight kit, Xenon headlight hit, or any other LED headlight conversion kits.  With these tools, you can achieve your lightning needs without much difficulty.

    1. Could you please tell me which led bulbs fit into a 2014 civic headlight. I’ve changed the mainbeam led but the remaining lights (spots inside the headlight) look yellow in comparison.

      • You should get 9006 bulb (sedan) or h11 (coupe) for low beam and 9005 for high beam headlights. There are plenty of quality aftermarket LED bulbs out there.

      Fog Light Front Bulb. H11
      Fog Light Front Bulb H16

      but it should be

      Low Beam Front. H11
