How to find the right headlight bulbs for Honda Odyssey?

Finding the right headlight bulbs for your Odyssey may prove to be difficult, especially if you have no idea what kind of bulbs to look for. That said, you can always check in the owner’s manual, where you will find the most accurate information. You can also ask your Honda dealer, or you can follow the guide below. While this guide is accurate, be careful with model years that overlap.

  • 1995 through 2004 model year – H4/9003 for the low beam, H/L for the high beam
  • 2005 through 2008 model year – 9005/HB4 for the low beam, 9005/HB3 for the high beam
  • 2009 and 2010 model year – 9005/HB4 for the low beam, 9005/HB3 for the high beam
  • 2011 through 2017 model year – H11 for the low beam, 9005/HB3 for the high beam
  • 2011 through 2017 model year with HID – D2S for the low beam, 9005/HB3 for the high beam

How to upgrade the headlights on the Honda Odyssey?

First, let’s talk about how to keep them in the best shape, shall we? To do that, we recommend replacing the broken bulbs only with high-quality bulbs from reputable manufacturers. Sure, you’ll pay more, but these bulbs last longer, which means that they are cheaper in the long run.

An even better alternative is HID bulbs, the same that you would put in Xenon headlights. These bulbs produce brighter light and last even longer, which makes that a great substitute of halogen bulbs. However, they are not cheap, especially when purchased together with a conversion kit, which is a must if you want them to work in the first place.

In the past few years, LED headlight bulbs are all the craze. They claim that they produce an even brighter light than HID bulbs, while also spending less energy. While this is definitely true, in reality, they don’t work great with the existing headlight housing. The light will be brighter, but it won’t reach as far.

In order to really upgrade your headlights, why not replace them with aftermarket headlights? There are high-quality options for the Odyssey available, especially for the last generation. These aftermarket headlights come with projection housing that works great with HID and LED bulbs.

Light bulbs replacement guide

As with almost any other Honda vehicle, replacing the headlight bulbs on the Odyssey is very easy and can be done on the go. Just follow these steps:

  • Press the release tab on the electrical connector and remove it from the base of the bulb
  • Rotate the bulb counterclockwise around ¼ and then pull it out of the housing
  • Insert the new bulb in the housing and turn clockwise until it “clicks”
  • Reconnect the electrical connector to the base of the bulb

    • Could you please specify your vehicle’s year of manufacture and the bulb placement?
Headlights are usually equipped with 55W bulbs while fog lights are 35W. Never heard about 65W.
