For the 2019 model year, the Kia Soul uses the H13 bulb for its high beam and low beam headlights. Its fog lights come with either the H11 LED, H16 LED or H8 LED bulb. Other lighting components that use LED lighting include daytime running lights, parking lights, brake lights, side marker lights and the inner tail light bulb.

The 2019 Kia Soul uses a halogen headlight bulb for its turn signal and a basic H7 LED bulb for its license plate light. This version of the Soul also has an optional cargo light that can also be replaced with an LED unit.

In 2018, the base model used a Halogen low beam headlights and fog lights, while mid-level models came equipped with halogen high beams and halogen low beams as well as fog lights in all three cases. The top Kia Soul trim level included both halogen high beams and halogen low beams along with LEDs for both types of fog lights. Additional lighting components that use LEDs include daytime running lights, tail lights (excluding the inner light), turn signals, parking lights and license plate lights.

For 2017, the halogen headlight bulbs were used in every Kia Soul model for both high and low beams with fog lights that included a H16 or H11 LED bulb. The most expensive trim level also included halogen headlights with LED turn signals and halogen parking lights however it did not include any lighting with LED technology for its rear-view camera system. Additional components that used LEDs in the 2017 model year include daytime running lights, tail lights (excluding the inner light), turn signals, parking lights and license plate lights.

Kia Soul uses a standard H7 or 9003 socket headlight bulb for its base models while mid-level trims use an H4 socket headlight bulb. The H7 bulb should not be used for the high beam, while the 9003 is only intended to be used for this purpose.

For 2016, all Kia Soul headlight configurations included halogen lighting; high beams and low beams that were equipped with LED turn signals and parking lights. Additional components that come equipped with LEDs include daytime running lights and tail lights (excluding the inner light). The base model uses a standard H4 socket headlight bulb or an H3 for its fog light assembly while mid-level trims use a 9005 HB2 socket headlight bulb in either H4 or 9145 format. Top trim levels use an H13 type of socket for their headlights which uses a6 HB4 base bulb type.

For 2015, the base model of the Kia Soul used a H3 type headlight bulb for its low beam and fog lights. The mid-level trims use an H4 socket headlight bulb while the top trim levels use a 9005 HB2 socket headlight bulb in either H4 or 9145 format. High beams on all models used a standard H7 type bulb with LED turn signals for their high beams and parking lights. Additional lighting components that came equipped with LEDs include daytime running lights and tail lights (excluding the inner light).

The 2014 version of the vehicle uses a standard halogen headlight bulbs in both cases, however unlike in 2013, this time around it does not feature LED rear tail lamps. Additional lighting components that used LEDs included daytime running lights, parking lights and turn signals.

The mid-level trims used an H7 type headlight bulb while high beams used a 9005 HB2 format socket headlight bulb with DRLs in both cases. Including DRLs; the rear tail lamps (excluding inner light) were also equipped with LED technology. Although, this year they did not share any exterior lighting components with the front end of the Kia Soul which featured LEDs for their high beam, low beam and turn signal functions along with their parking lights.

For models of the vehicle, all trims have a standard halogen headlight bulb in all cases including high and low beams for both front and rear. Upgrading from factory bulbs to the aftermarket LED/HID

LED and HID headlights are built to produce more light when compared to halogen lights. When upgrading, be sure to check the measurements and bulb sizes so that you get the correct fitment. You can consult or hire an expert during the installation process to ensure that your new headlights interact well with the headlight assembly.

Let’s take a look at how LED headlights are different from halogen lights.

    HID Headlights vs LED Headlights

The headlight assembly consists of two major components which are the housing and the light source itself – whether it is an HID bulb or an LED chip. The size of the bulb affects the output, with larger bulbs providing more illumination than smaller ones. When you upgrade your car’s lighting system to LEDs, be sure to check if they’ll fit in your headlight assembly. Unless you have bought aftermarket parts for your vehicle, LEDs probably won’t fit directly in your stock housings so you’ll need to swap them out too.

For more on LED chips, read our article here . Now let’s look at the size difference of HID and LED chips.

HID bulb sizes range from 35 to 165 watts, while an LED chip is only 3 watts on average. The design of LEDs makes it difficult to produce larger chips because they are very sensitive to heat. You can read about the different types of LEDs here .

The low power consumption of LEDs results in longer battery life for your car, as well as time and money savings which you can now invest in your home! Read more about how much energy LEDs use compared with halogen lights .

The output or brightness that you’ll get also varies between HIDs and LEDs. Halogen headlight assemblies typically produce 1,400 lumens per bulb while an LED assembly can generate 7,000 lumens or more! Because of the LED’s longer life, you’ll save money over time as well as trouble from having to replace them.

LEDs are a great choice if your car is still using halogen lights. Find out how LEDs compare with HIDs . There are now also brighter options such as HID/Xenon headlights that can produce double the amount of light. The downside is that they consume a lot more power and can be quite expensive as well as difficult to install on your own. For this reason, we only recommend upgrading if you’re an expert car mechanic. In terms of output and luminosity, LEDs definitely win over HIDs so go for them if it will fit in your headlight assembly!

Advantages of upgrading from halogen to LED/HID

    1. Longer headlight lifespan.
    2. HIDs and LEDs provide a larger light spectrum improving visibility on the road.
    3. They are easy to install.
    4. Energy-efficient as they use up to 30% less energy.
    5. They have better aesthetic features.

How to choose the correct bulb size of the LED/HID lamp

    1. Look at your original bulbs

Your original bulbs have their part/size number indicated in the manual. Or take a look at your old bulb before buying new ones.

    2. Check your user manual

Your vehicle’s manual contains a lot of information that will help you determine the correct bulb size for your LED/HID lamps. Depending on the type of car you drive, this information could be located anywhere under the Vehicle Maintenance section. Look for a subsection that talks about bulb replacement.

    3. Contact your car manufacturer

Alternatively, you can reach out to your vehicle dealer or manufacturer to enquire about your vehicle’s bulb size. By providing your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), the dealer or manufacturer should be able to fetch all the details you need.

    4. Online catalogs

Carrying out an online search can help you identify the bulb size that fits your car. There are several catalogs that host bulb size charts for almost all cars. All you need to do is key in your car’s details such as its type, year of manufacture, and model.

    Installing new bulbs

    1. Access the headlight through the vehicle’s engine compartment.
    2. Open the protective cap to reveal the bulb.
    3. Remove the old bulb and replace it with the new one.
    4. Reinstall the bulb as you return the cap in place.
    5. Test your headlights to see if the new bulb works.

    Additional equipment

    1. Screwdriver
    2. A cloth damped with some alcohol for cleaning the new bulb.
