The Toyota Highlander has been in production since January 2001. It is also sold in other countries as the Toyota Kluger. The car was the first mid-size crossover to be based on a sedan – the Toyota Camry. With it came halogen headlights that have since been upgraded to LEDs in the latest models.
Bulb types used in headlights
The Toyota Highlander comes with a 9006 bulb for its high beam headlights and an H11 bulb for its low beam headlights. Toyota installed LED bulbs for the fog lights, brake lights, taillights, and rear side marker lights.
Upgrading from the factory bulbs to the aftermarket led/hid
Replacing your old halogen bulbs with aftermarket LED or HID headlights helps to effectively switch out yellow and dull beams for some white, bright light. You end up with brighter headlights that improve your vision while driving at night.
Advantages of upgrading headlights from halogen to LED/HID
- Helps to make your car look distinctive and bolder.
- Improves your vision on the road, making driving safer.
- LEDs and HIDs last longer compared to halogen bulbs.
- Reduces the dazzling effect on oncoming traffic.
- LEDs and HIDs consume less electrical power and produce brighter light.
How to choose the correct bulb size for led/hid car lamp
Feel free to scroll down the page and check out the Toyota Highlander light bulb replacement chart.
There are other methods you can use to determine the size of the bulbs fitted in your car’s headlights. These methods are listed below:
- Checking your original bulbs
To find out what size of bulb you should get, take a look at your old bulbs after removing them from the headlight assembly for their size/part pattern. Bulbs normally have their sizes indicated on them.
- Check your vehicle’s manual
Your vehicle’s manual is probably lying in a glove box somewhere accumulating dust. It’s one of the most important resources you have when you need to make replacements on your car. Look for a section on bulb sizes when you need to upgrade your bulbs. You may find it under Vehicle Maintenance.
- Contact your vehicle manufacturer
Call your vehicle dealership or manufacturer to find out what bulb sizes you should get for your car. All you need to do is give them your car’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You should find it indicated on your dashboard, driver seat or door panel.
Installing new bulbs
- Locate the headlight assembly through the engine compartment.
- Unplug the wires that deliver power to the assembly.
- Remove the rubber grommet.
- Unscrew the old bulb and remove it.
- Clean your new bulb and install it.
- Return the rubber grommet to its position and plug the wires back.
- Test your bulbs to find out if they work.
Additional equipment that you may need
When installing HID bulbs, you may need to have:
- Alcohol tissues and wipes to clean the new bulb.
- A screwdriver
