First generation (SA22C/FB)

For the first generation Mazda RX-7, known as the SA22C/FB, which debuted in the late 1970s and extended into the mid-1980s, the bulb sizes are specific to its era and design. This generation, celebrated for introducing the rotary engine sports car to a broader audience, featured lighting that was characteristic of the period.

The headlight bulb size, along with the tail lights, turn signals, and interior lighting, were all designed in accordance with the technology and aesthetic of the time. The SA22C/FB models primarily used standard halogen bulbs, which were the norm for vehicles of that era. These bulbs provided adequate illumination and were consistent with the vehicle’s overall design and electrical system capabilities.

Second generation (FC)

The second generation of the Mazda RX-7, known as the FC, was produced from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s. This generation saw several advancements in automotive technology, reflected in the RX-7’s bulb sizes and types. The FC models often came equipped with improved halogen bulbs, offering better visibility and longer lifespans compared to the earlier generation.

In addition to the headlights, the FC generation also featured upgraded tail lights and turn signal bulbs, as well as enhanced interior lighting. These improvements in lighting technology were part of a broader effort to increase the RX-7’s safety, performance, and appeal to a more modern market.

Third generation (FD)

The third and final generation of the Mazda RX-7, the FD, was produced in the 1990s and is often revered as the most iconic iteration of the model. The FD generation embraced more advanced lighting technologies, including the use of High-Intensity Discharge (HID) bulbs in some models, which provided brighter and more efficient lighting compared to halogen bulbs.

The FD’s sleek and aerodynamic design was complemented by its sophisticated lighting system, which included not only enhanced headlights but also improved tail lights and interior lighting. The bulb sizes and types in the FD generation reflected the cutting-edge technologies of the time, contributing to the vehicle’s legendary status among sports car enthusiasts.
