There is a saying that Japanese cars are the most reliable, and you might think that about your Mazda CX-3. Even if that is true, there are still parts of the vehicle that will break down, and you will need to replace them. The most common ones are light bulbs. This article will help you find the right size for your exterior bulbs and guide you on how to change them.

What size bulbs do I need?

Depending on the year and model of your Mazda CX-3, the bulbs will either be different sizes or use a different type. Sometimes they come in pairs; sometimes it’s just one bulb. Check out our diagram below to determine the exact type you need. We also included that into this article for your convenience! Here’s how:

From where that red arrow points, look at the outer edge of your car and find the letter/numbers printed there (in white). For example, we found “E” on our 2016 Mazda CX-3 and used it as reference to find what we were looking for in our diagram. Now turn to our diagram and see if any of the bulbs on that side of your car match up with what you found.

If you can’t find any bulb that’s an exact fit, don’t worry! We included all possible sizes for all years and models of Mazda CX-3s. You will need to check out which size is right for your car and if there are several sizes you might have a hard time finding the exact one.

Why should you replace the bulbs on a Mazda CX-5?

Nothing lasts forever, so from time to time, bulbs can burn out, leaving your vehicle with non-functioning exterior lighting and driving it like that is not recommended. Since any bulb can burn out after a while of usage, this is the most common reason for replacing them.

Vehicle upgrades have been popular since the early days of motoring. Bulb upgrades will enable you to give a modern look to your CX-5, with extra LED lights.

The base model of CX-5 comes with halogen headlight bulbs, but you can upgrade to HID or xenon technology for improved visibility and driving experience.

Halogen Headlight Bulbs

This is the standard type found in newer cars. Halogen bulbs are cheaper than HID and Xenon headlights but they don’t last very long since they generate more heat than other types of bulb used in automotive industry. These are also easy to replace, so if your car has this type of light it’s best that you just get new ones instead of spending money on upgrading them into something better. This is because if a by fitting it with a new set of LED lights. Depending on the trim levels, you may already have LEDs, so check your manual to verify.

HID Headlights

High intensity discharge bulbs are brighter than regular halogen headlight bulbs. They have improved visibility while driving, but they require less energy to work, so you don’t have to worry about the extra heat generated by this type of light. LED upgrades will also make an improvement in your vehicle’s lighting system. Be careful when buying these headlights though because there are many counterfeit HIDs available online, so be sure that you get them from a reliable source or dealer.

HID lights are high-intensity discharge lamps that provide the driver with better visibility during night time driving conditions. These are sometimes called xenon lights because they emit bright white light thus making other road users know car’s presence. If you want to upgrade your CX-5’s headlights, consider getting HIDs. They may be expensive, but they last for many hours and provide better visibility than halogen lights.

HID headlight bulbs use a non-filament electric arc to create light instead of the filament used in halogen lamps. This will generate less heat and last longer compared with regular halogens. If you’re looking forward to upgrading your CX-5’s exterior lighting system, it might be best if you skip on the LED idea and go straight for HID lights since they are more popular among drivers nowadays who see the need to get enhanced vehicle performance without spending too much money on upgrades.

This type of bulb uses Xenon gas for producing better quality light. Also, HID lights are also good for improved visibility during night time driving conditions. You can upgrade your CX-5 with better lighting system using these types of headlights. These cost more than regular halogen bulbs but they last longer so you wouldn’t have to worry about spending money on replacement every now and then.

Is there an advantage to replacing old bulbs with LEDs?

If your Mazda CX-5 already has LED bulbs from the factory, then you would not see a great advantage. LEDs are superior to HID or halogen in two areas: how long they last and the power they consume.

Power consumption in your home will reduce the bill in your home, but in a vehicle, it will reduce the strain on the alternator. Since one of the tasks it performs is to power the light, upgrading your bulbs with LEDs means that it will need to spend less energy on them, increasing its lifespan.

On the topic of lifespan, LEDs can last much longer than any other type of bulb you may fit to your CX-5. Replacing the outdated halogen or HID bulbs with LEDs will probably mean that they will last for years due to some having a rated lifespan of 50 thousand working hours, much longer than the others.

As mentioned before, LEDs are also much brighter than other bulbs thus making them far superior if you have the available space to install them.

LEDs come in a variety of colours and specifications, but they will all serve your CX-5 well as long as you choose one that is compatible with your car’s headlight system. You can always check compatibility on Mazda’s website or the packaging if it already comes pre-installed.

When installing LEDs yourself, please be aware that there are two types of manufacturers for LED lights: those who focus on quality and those whose main priority is profit. Also, not every LED bulb has the same colour temperature; this is something important to consider when buying yours. It’s advisable to go for an LED with a high CRI (colour rendering index) to ensure that the colours will be as similar to natural light as possible.

Finally, please note that there are two types of LED lighting: projector and floodlight. Depending on the design of your headlights, you would either need one or the other. If you’re not sure what type of bulb is best for you, we’d advise checking with Mazda’s website or dealership where you can buy bulbs from.

The first thing we recommend doing before buying any-type of bulb replacement is consulting Mazda’s official website where all driving and technical specifications can be found along with proper instructions on what kind of replacement lamp should be used depending on each individual CX- model year. Also, remember that Mazda CX-5 Headlight Bulbs are considered as safety equipment and must be replaced immediately in case of damage or poor visibility.

How to replace a headlight bulb on a Mazda CX-5

The replacement procedure on the headlight bulb on your Outlander is quite easy and quick. Before you start tinkering with the electrical components, make sure to disconnect the power from the battery, just as a precaution.

You will not need to take out the entire assembly, just unscrew the round plastic cap on the back of it, and you will reach the bulb. Replace it and screw the cap back into place, and you are good to go.

This is a common replacement, and you will most likely not have to replace the cap unless it gets lost or broken. If that happens you can source a new one from an auto store.

If for any reason you want to change the turn signal bulb as well, all you have to do is unscrew it from its socket, take out the old one and pop in the new one. Easy peasy!

How important is it to replace the bulbs on a Mazda CX-5?

If a bulb is not working, then you should replace it as soon as possible.

Can I buy all bulbs at once?

Yes. Some retailers sell kits containing replacement bulbs for almost all lights in your vehicle.
