The Hyundai Tucson is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 2004.

In the United States, Canada and Brazil, Hyundai offers a single model. In mainland Europe, China and Japan there are two models: the Tucson ix and Tucson x2.

In South Korea four different models manufactured by Hyundai Motor Company’s HMC Plant Kia Automotive Group’s KM-KVN Plant were sold under the name of ix55 (ix25 in some European markets) until it was replaced by Tucson; while domestically in Australia, New Zealand and Iran it is sold as Veracruz due to legal trademark conflicts with Mazda.

The Headlight Bulb of the Hyundai Tucson is part of the car’s headlights. The headlight bulb emits light when it is activated, which allows you to see further in front of your car at night than you could with just your standard running lights.

The average life expectancy for a Hyundai Tucson Headlight Bulb is 200-500 hours of use.

The exact number will vary depending on many factors, such as climate or mileage. The Headlight Bulb can be replaced by almost anyone – if you are uncomfortable doing so, ask an experienced friend or local repair shop to assist you.

    Replacement

    Preface

It may not come as much surprise that changing a headlight bulb requires little more than turning a few screws and replacing the old bulb with a new one. This guide provides instructions on how to change the bulb for your Hyundai Tucson’s headlights, as well as other related information.

    Precautionary Measures

    • Do not touch the glass part of any lightbulb with bare hands, because the oil from your fingertips will cause that part of the lamp to burn hotter than it should (which quickly degrades that bulb’s performance and lifespan). Make use of latex gloves if you do not want to accidentally leave prints on your bulbs after touching them.
    • When replacing one headlight bulb, replace both bulbs so that they are evenly lit and balanced. Also note whether these two replaceable bulbs are of different wattage – this is generally determined by which type of system is installed on the vehicle, but if you are unsure, check your owner’s manual or with a certified mechanic.
    • If you suspect that your headlight bulbs could be malfunctioning, look for other tell-tale signs such as excessive glare that is not helpful when lighting anything in front of your car.
    • Some states have laws about how bright headlights can be on a certain model of car, so be aware of these limitations and any possible fines or penalties. You may need to install smaller lights or replace faulty ones to avoid getting stopped by law enforcement personnel who don’t appreciate it when people drive too brightly at night.

    Prerequisites

    • Gather tools required to remove the headlight cover(s) and bulb(s) and to replace them:
    • Flathead screwdriver (for removing the external cover)
    • Phillips or hex head screwdriver (for removing internal fasteners)

    Procedure

    • Open the hood. This is where your Hyundai Tucson’s engine is located, if you’re unsure of what this area looks like check out your owner’s manual under “Hood Overview” or ask a certified mechanic for assistance. If your car has a Low Oil Pressure indicator light, you will have to turn it off before going any further because you do not want this warning to appear while you are working on a moving part of the engine. Consult your owner’s manual or a certified mechanic if you need help doing so.
    • Locate the headlight assembly on your Hyundai Tucson. For a diagram showing all areas of a vehicle that have headlights, please refer to the “Headlight Locations” section in this guide.
    • Find out how many screws there are around your headlights and where they are located. Generally, if it’s an X5 screwdriver you will only need to remove one cover but if it’s Y6 or Y8 then both covers must be removed as explained below:
    1. Three screws-two at the top and one at the bottom
    2. Two screws – one at each end; these tend to be longer than other types
    3. Four screws – two at either end near the tires (near the fenders), and two near the headlights
    • Remove all fasteners. This may be as simple as unscrewing them, but if they are particularly stubborn you can try unscrewing them counterclockwise or by using a screwdriver that’s been doused in penetrating oil to loosen rusted parts.
    • Gently pull back the rubber cover on your Hyundai Tucson’s headlight assembly and set it aside so that you can gain access to the bulb. If you need an extra hand, lay it down on a clean rag for safekeeping and place it somewhere there won’t be any loose screws or tools rolling around and possibly damaging something.
    • Unscrew the first retaining bolt (or other fastener) holding your Hyundai Tucson’s old headlight bulb in place. When you have done so, carefully pull the old headlight bulb(s) out of its socket and put it where it won’t break or short circuit in your car’s interior.
    • Gently push in your new Hyundai Tucson headlight bulbs into their sockets – do not force them in if they are too tight! If you find that they are difficult to insert, check whether you removed all fasteners on the back of the assembly (and also make sure there aren’t any pieces left behind).
    • Once your replacement is secured, use a screwdriver to screw the retaining bolt back into place tightly – this will give optimum performance from these units. Return the rubber cover back into place by sliding it into its grooves.
    • Close up your Hyundai Tucson’s hood, engage the latch and test out your new headlight bulb(s). If you did not replace both bulbs simultaneously (e.g., you only replaced one), wait at least five minutes before attempting to turn on your car or this may cause further damage to the electronics inside of the assembly.

    Additional Info

    • Avoid touching your car’s headlights with dirty hands; if oils get onto them, they will get foggy and dimmer much more quickly.
    • Some states have laws about how bright headlights can be on a certain model of car, so be aware of these limitations and possible fines or penalties.
    • If you notice your car’s headlight assembly is leaking, don’t ever touch it with bare hands. Instead, check out this guide on how to fix a leaky Hyundai Tucson headlight.
    • Sometimes, the headlight assembly may get so hot that it melts your plastic bumper or even warps your metal fenders – if this occurs, take out heat-sensitive materials before continuing.
    • If you are using a dipstick to test your oil level, do not let any oil drip onto these items.
