Honda’s idea of a sports car is Prelude. It may not be the best sports car they had, but the fact that it was spanning for over 20 years and five-generation means that it was indeed popular. The production ended long before LED bulbs were introduced to cars, so a bulb upgrade may be something that you might be interested in.
Bulb size is something that you should look at before you go out and purchase them, and, in this article, you will find a table for all of them if you decide to make the upgrades.
Why would you want to upgrade the bulbs on your Prelude?
To be honest, the Prelude is an old car, and things will start breaking down. The most common part that may go out is the bulbs. The old halogen bulbs that come preinstalled on the Prelude are not that long-lasting, meaning that once they start to give out, you can start with the upgrades and replace them.
In the tuning culture, the Prelude is hugely praised, and owners do all that they can to improve the look and try to modernize it as much as possible. In this case, LEDs are quite popular and modern, so you are looking at another reason for replacing the old bulbs with new ones.
What would you get with replacing the outdated bulbs with LEDs?
Older cars start to show their age when you begin to see things breaking down or not working as intended, and the Prelude is no exception. In this case, the most crucial part is the alternator. As it provides the bulbs with power, installing bulbs that consume less power will make it work less to power them. Since LEDs require less power, it means that the alternator will work less, and you will be preserving it.
If you want to replace your light bulbs with something that can last longer then halogen or HID bulbs, then you should definitely consider LED bulbs. Their technology enables them to work much longer than the others, and you will be looking at bulbs that will last you a very long time.
Process for replacing a headlight bulb on a Honda Prelude
Before you start working on this, make sure the power is completely disconnected to avoid any damage.
Locate the power connector on the back of the headlight assembly and disconnect it. Remove the rubber dome covering the bulb and put it aside. Unlock the metallic pin that holds the bulb in place. Remove the old bulb and put the new one, making sure that the orientation is the same. Insert the metal pin and lock it in place. Put the rubber pin and plug in the cable.
Can I replace the taillights with LED bulbs as well?
Yes. You can replace all bulbs with LEDs. You can purchase a LED upgrade package containing all the bulbs for your Prelude.
