First generation (Typ 8L; 1996–2003)
Audi A3 is one of the legendary subcompact luxury executive designed vehicles. Audi A3’s first-generation first popped up in 1996 and has defied the challenge of time for two decades.
Second generation (Typ 8P; 2003–2013)
The metamorphosis of Audi A3, from its first-generation to the current third-generation, has seen the introduction of some jaw-dropping features. However, today, we will focus only on the Audi A3 headlight bulb and the replacement options available on our bulb list.
Third generation (Typ 8V; 2012–present)
Bulb size and intensity varies from model to model. Additionally, different types of bulbs are designed for specific conditions such as foggy weather or night drive. For Audi A3, the following are the headlight bulb size specifications;
The earlier budget-friendly Audi A3 models come with halogen lights, which are cheaper than Light Emitting Diodes (LED) fitted in more luxurious models. The good news is that you can upgrade from halogen bulbs to LED bulbs or High-Intensity Discharge, HID Bulb any time.
Upgrading to LED/HID lights
As we earlier mentioned, you can upgrade anytime from halogen to LED or HID bulbs. Although this is not mandatory, it comes with the following advantages;
- LED bulbs illuminate brighter than halogen bulbs of the same size. For instance, a halogen bulb produces 1,900 lumens at 100 watts while an LED bulb produces 11, 500 lumens at 100 watts.
- LED bulbs are more energy-efficient than halogen bulbs. Research indicates that LED bulbs will light brighter than halogen while using 85% less power.
- LED bulbs have a longer life span than halogen bulbs
- LED bulbs generate less heat than halogen bulbs
- Halogen bulbs can be replaced directly by LED bulbs
Remember that LED and HID bulbs have the most features in common. You can always wait to upgrade your bulbs when;
- your halogen bulb is blown out
- your bulb is dimmed
- experiencing headlight circuit failure
The following are important things to consider when choosing A3 headlights
- The bulb’s life span
- The bulb’s brightness
- The bulb’s whiteness.
As we all know, it is unsafe to drive with faulty headlights, not to mention the hassle of explaining to the highway patrol why one of your lights is not functioning. Luckily, you can replace your Audi A3 headlight bulb right at the comfort of your garage.
The following tools will come in handy;
- A new headlight bulb
- Alcohol wipes to dust the bulb; this is important!
- A screwdriver
If you have all the tools ready, follow the these easy steps:
Step 1: Locate the headlight holder
Firstly, open the hood of your engine compartment to access the headlights. Pull out the bulb holder. Notice that it is connected to three power wires.
Step 2: Detach the power wires
The power wires are attached to the base of the bulb. You can detach them by removing the holder, which can either be a plastic or metal clip. To disconnect the clip, pull it off while pressing hard onto it.
Step 3: Remove the old bulb
Remove the back of the holder and pull out the old bulb by holding onto its base.
Step 4: Clean and install the new bulb
Once the new bulb is wiped clean, install it into the bulb holder chamber, and then connect the power wires back. Finally, fix the bulb holder back into its position. Feel free to test if it is working.
We have a 2015 Audi a3 it’s four-banger I don’t know what they have to owe them or something a lot fun headlight it was out so my overview on how to replace it to a place that you kind of got to pull the front bumper you at least have to let her hang down a little bit that way you can access the headlight there is no way that you’re going to squeeze your hand and they remove the clips and everything else and get the headlight out but it’s easy process so it’s this applies to both left and right front so you have the headlight is held in by three t30 screws right there yeah right here so that’s your headlight you can remove them but you’re still not going to be able to do nothing with it till you remove the bumper forwards so to do that remove these three T 30s on the inside of the fender well here you have three T 20s and right straight up you have a ten millimeter you can kind of keep that in there but like you get it it’s right up
